Hounds & Heroes
Awesome Greyhound Adoptions is proud to offer the Hounds & Heroes program. These highly-trainable greyhounds are given the chance to find placement as pets, as therapy dogs or as fully-trained service dogs for veterans and first responders with PTSD or who need mobile assistance. H&H has been placing trained greyhound service dogs with veterans since May 2011.

Bee – Future Hounds and Heroes Service Dog Ambassador
Bee was adopted by a Hounds and Heroes volunteer in October 2024, at just 11 weeks old. She travelled 1,500 miles from Abilene, Kansas to her new home and family in Florida. It was immediately obvious that this little pup was incredibly bright and would thrive with a great deal of intellectual and physical stimulation. It was decided that she would begin training to represent Hounds and Heroes at its many public functions. Having an in-house service dog allows us to demonstrate to veterans and first responders all that a working greyhound can do. Follow Bee’s training journey here, month by month, and on Facebook.

Sponsoring a Service Greyhound
Level 1: Sponsor the greyhound itself as it goes through training – $1000 – spay or neuter, dental, titers, shots, microchip, collar, lead, tag collar, glucosamine and chondroitin, fish oil tablets, six months heartworm meds, service dog coat, food for the four to six months the dog is in training and anything else the dog needs during training.
Level 2: Sponsor a greyhound’s training – $3000 – four to six months intensive training of dog and training of the veteran and dog together.
Level 3: Sponsor the greyhound throughout the entire process – $5000 – takes the dog clear through from initial selection at the compound throughout training and the turning over of the greyhound to the veteran owner.
